We are delighted to share with you our first sustainability report.
In line with our purpose of promoting more sustainable tourism and generating economic, social, and environmental value in the destinations we visit, Onesixth Expeditions has presented its 1st Sustainability Report at Abra Cultural, alongside colleagues and tourism providers who have been with us from the beginning.
The Sustainability Report 2022-2023 was prepared following the highest international reporting standards and practices: the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, including our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The content of the report was defined through an online consultation involving representatives from various company stakeholder groups: employees, customers, tourism providers, and NGOs, among others. From this, the 10 material topics addressed in the report were prioritized.
"To provide transparent, clear, and standardized information about our business performance in economic, social, and environmental areas, the sustainability report is the most effective communication tool. We are confident it is a process of continuous improvement that enables us to organize our actions around sustainability while identifying opportunities for improvement," said Daniel Santin, co-founder of Onesixth Expeditions.
Sustainability Strategy of Onesixth Expeditions
The sustainability strategy of Onesixth Expeditions focuses on three main areas:
Designing curated trips that are respectful of the environment and communities, involving our clients and passengers in this paradigm shift.
Contributing to communities through donation programmes and purpose-driven purchases.
The challenge of growth while respecting the environment, by measuring our carbon footprint and fighting climate change through ecosystem regeneration and conservation.
A Deep Commitment to Sustainability
At the heart of our company lies a deep and ingrained commitment to sustainability. It is a commitment that transcends words and is reflected in every action we take, every experience we offer, and every relationship we cultivate. For this reason, in December 2023, the company received certification as a B Corporation, surpassing the 80 points required by B Lab with a score of 93.4, validating our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
From the design of each of our itineraries to the expeditions, including emerging destinations, our sales team's focus is on preserving nature and respecting local communities. Our goal is for each trip with Onesixth to leave a positive footprint along the way.
Actions of Onesixth Expeditions
We measure and offset the carbon footprint generated by the company and our operations through certified bonds in a Wind Park, ensuring our trips are Carbon Neutral.
We make donations through 1% For the Planet to environmental causes to regenerate the most valuable ecosystems in our country.
By providing our Welcome Kits to passengers, we avoid using 5768 plastic bottles during the trip.
We make purpose-driven purchases from Textile Cooperatives to create our welcome kits.
We have tripled the number of collaborators within the organization, focusing on creating multidisciplinary teams.
We identified that 30% of our tourism providers are committed to sustainability and aligned with our work philosophy.
Through our donation programme, we support projects that promote education, community development, the fight against poverty, and social inclusion.
"We hope this sustainability report will allow us to communicate our actions and commitment to sustainability transparently, so it has a multiplying effect and thus an even greater positive impact,"
commented Muriel Douton, Head of Sustainability at Onesixth Expedition during the event's opening.
